The final section covers plant design and simulation of processes using nonconventional components. In addition, to aid in comprehension, solutions to examples of real problems are included. The author also explores the design of new plants and simulation of existing plants where conventional chemicals and material mixtures with measurable compositions are used. The text reviews the design and simulation of individual simple unit operations that includes a mathematical model of each unit operation such as reactors, separators, and heat exchangers. The author describes the basic methodologies for computer aided design and offers a description of the basic steps of process simulation in Aspen Plus and Aspen Hysys. A comprehensive and practical resource, the text uses both Aspen Plus and Aspen Hysys simulation software. Sometimes you find some error of typing but it's the best book to learn more than one software at a time.Īspen HYSYS. This one is great because it's relatively shorter than the previous two and it compares the same task in Aspen Plus, Aspen Hysys, SuperPro Designer and Pro II. I guess it's the better I could find about Aspen Plus. Sometimes there's only one example of each though.Īspen Plus - Chemical Engineering Applications It shows the same tasks being performed in both software through examples. It's useful because when I forget how to do something, I go back there and look at it.Ĭhemical Process Design and Simulation: Aspen Plus and Aspen Hysys Applications Then I keep printing the screen and put their steps side by side for comparison. One thing I like to do is having an Excel file where I try to perform the same task in all the simulators. What you should do: keep learning SuperPro but learn as well the basics of Aspen Plus and Aspen HYSYS. That's the reason I've been using them in conjunction with SuperPro, so I can get data SuperPro isn't capable of getting. It barelly has binary coefficient parameters for activity coefficient models or complex equations of state, its density models is very simple, you can't find buble or dew point with it, and some of the information required to simulate some equipment is much more difficult to find than the ones required by the other two. SuperPro is also good for simulating bioprocesses (it was its original purpose), while the others were meant to simulate chemical (Plus) and petrochemical (HYSYS) processes.īut SuperPro lacks on some crucial stuff. The good thing about SuperPro is that it's versatile (you can use dynamic and continuous equipment in the same flowsheet), it's easier to use (everything is on the same window, while the others have multiple windows and multiple softwares) and allows you to do a bunch of stuff I don't know if the others can such as scheduling operations and making economical evaluations at the click of a button. Meanwhile, I could find some good books about the other two. I had to learn it by reading its manual, using its Help menu and watching Intelligen videos. Besides, I could not find a single book about SuperPro. I found very difficult to find someone who even knew what SuperPro was. Most people in the world use Aspen Plus or Aspen HYSYS, they're like the Microsoft Office of process simulators. But meanwhile I've been using Aspen Plus and Aspen HYSYS as well. I've been using SuperPro Designer for the last 3 years for my final project (I fucked up because got depressed and kept postponing the work I had to do). I even thought I was reading an old post of mine when I read your post. I guess I was the only person in this sub to ever ask about SuperPro Designer.
